Let’s Celebrate National Nurse Week in Denver

Denver nurses are the heart and the backbone of the Denver healthcare profession. That’s why National Nurse Week is so important. It is the one week out of the year that the Denver public can show their appreciation for all the hard work, dedication, and personal sacrifice our Denver nurses provide day in and day out.

Here’s a Little History

National Nurses Week is celebrated from May 6 – May 12. In 1982, President Reagan proclaimed May 6 as National Nurses Day in appreciation for their personal and professional contributions to the improved health of American citizens. In 1990, the American Nurses Association (ANA) extended the celebration for a week (May 6 – 12) to better raise awareness of the vital role nurses play in healthcare.

May 12 (the last day of National Nurse Week) is the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the legendary founder of modern nursing. Her training and organizing of battlefield nurses during the Crimean War (1853-1856) changed how the world perceived nursing. Today, nursing is a respected profession enjoyed by over 4 million registered nurses (RNs) and 920,655 licensed practical nurses/licensed vocational nurses (LPN/LVNs) in the U.S.

Denver Nurses Are a Special Breed

Let’s face it. It takes a special person to be a Denver nurse! You’re on your feet for long shifts, putting physical demands on your bodies others can only imagine. Often, you’re so busy, there’s hardly time for a bathroom break!

But you do it because you have a passion or calling to help people. You are the type of person who thinks about others before you think about yourself. Denver nurses are some of the most dedicated, courageous and compassionate people you’ll ever find.
