How to Write a Strong Shift Template

Learn tips and tricks from the GigWorx team to create shift templates that attract top GigWorkers.

For many GigWorkers, the shift template is their first impression of your business, so the more clear and detailed you are in your description, the better.

A well-written shift description answers questions before they're asked, helps the day run smoothly for everyone, and supports a positive reputation for your company. If you're building a shift template, keep these tips in mind. (There's also an example below if you'd like a starting point!)

Start with the 5 W's

Your shift description should answer when, who, what, where, and why.

When: What are the shift hours? Include start and end times, and note whether there are breaks (and if they're paid or unpaid).

Who: Who is the site contact? Include their name and a phone number GigWorkers can call if they have questions on the day of the shift.

Where: Where is the shift located? Add the full address and any helpful directions (parking instructions, entrance location, check-in process, etc.).

What: What will the worker be doing? Be specific about tasks and expectations so they know exactly what the day looks like.

Why: Why should someone be excited to take this shift? GigWorkers love supporting local businesses and earning income, but if you have additional perks, a great team culture or opportunities for repeat work, highlight that!

Additional Details to Include:

  • Sell your shift using attention-grabbing titles and engaging messaging
  • Weight limits (if lifting is required)
  • Any required PPE (hard hats, safety vests, gloves, work boots, eye protection, masks, etc.)
  • Competitive pay rates
    • Not sure what a competitive pay rate looks like in your area? Connect with your local account manager, they're happy to help you determine the best rate to attract quality workers.
